Painting Contest: Squad Edition Update

I've spent most of the day working on the first marine for the Sons of Horus squad I'm working on for the contest.  I'm pretty pleased with the results.  The more I work with the Sons of Horus green, the more I'm liking it.  I'm also getting a little better at painting the symbol.  I decided that as the 'Obliterator' was a creation of Adeptus Mechanicus, it should have a symbol.  I didn't want to do the standard gear and skull, mostly because I didn't think I could pull it off on such a small space.  I decided to go for a simple gear, half crimson red half light grey.

I think It's good enough for government work.

I chose a marine with a plasma pistol, taking the opportunity to define the plasma cooling coil coloring early so that I wouldn't have to think about it later.  I thought about different colorings, but decided on the same basic blues I used on the warhound.  I've also decided to use minimal metalics for this army.  I'll be doing NMM throughout.

I discovered a couple touch ups I need to do as I was taking pictures, but he is essentially complete.  I think it's going to be a rather sexy army when it's all done.  I've also found someone who will cast the custom terminator shoulder pads I will be creating.  That will be EXTREMELY helpful as I intend to create a "Horuswing" army of all terminators.

More to come...
