I started by painting the entire front face using Mordian Blue. I used basic masking tape spaced an equal distance apart and painted in the white parts. After it was sufficiently white, I masked off the borders and blacked them. A few small touch ups and it was done. I'll do a more detailed step by step for the next part I do the stripes on.
To create the symbol, I used the symbol from the BoLS decal sheet as a base. I did a couple practices with a pen on paper and when I was confident with the basic shape, I went to the model. I started with the basic lines and expanded from there with a brush. Once the basic shape was done in black, I went over it leaving a small black border. Finally, I highlighted it using brighter reds.
You can reall start to get a sense of the whole thing now. What the colors will look like together. Minus has decided that the left (your right) side of the carapace will also share the blue/white striped scheme. Should be a fun challenge. Aims is going to be out of town for a little while, so I should have some extra time to work on it.
